Kathmandu, — The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has expressed dissatisfaction with the Election Commission of Nepal for announcing the schedule of the upcoming House of Representatives election, set for March 5 (Falgun 21), without prior consultation with political parties.
During the party’s secretariat meeting held on Wednesday, members raised serious concerns that the Commission decided on the election timetable unilaterally, without holding discussions with political stakeholders, according to General Secretary Kabindra Burlakoti.
He said the meeting emphasized the need for transparency and collaboration in the electoral process, stating that the Commission should have sought feedback from political parties before finalizing the schedule.
“Elections are a collective process. If the Commission had engaged in dialogue and sought consensus among parties, the electoral environment would have been more trustworthy,” Burlakoti said.
The RSP has decided to further deliberate on the issue. Burlakoti informed that another secretariat meeting has been scheduled for Friday, where the party will take a clear position regarding the Commission’s actions.
The meeting also reviewed the political developments of September 8–9 (Bhadra 23–24) and discussed plans to launch a ‘Harmony Campaign’ aimed at easing public confusion and promoting goodwill following recent political unrest. A final decision on the campaign will be made in the next meeting, he added.
Similarly, the party has begun preparing the agenda for its extended meeting to be held on October 31 and November 1 (Kartik 14–15). The session is expected to focus on organizational strengthening and outlining strategies for the upcoming election.
