Death Toll in Ramechhap Bus Accident Rises to 12

The death toll from a bus accident in Nepal’s Ramechhap district has risen to 12 after the vehicle plunged into the Tamakoshi River, police confirmed.

The death toll from a bus accident in Ramechhap district has risen to 12, police said on Tuesday. The accident occurred on Magh 27 (Tuesday) when a passenger bus veered off the road at Masantar in Manthali Municipality–6 and plunged into the Tamakoshi River.

According to Ramechhap Police Chief DSP Bhola Bhatt, eight passengers were rescued alive from the crash site and taken to various hospitals for treatment. He said the condition of some of the injured is critical.

The bus driver, Kushan Thapa Magar, survived the accident and is reported to be safe. The bus, bearing registration number Province 01–01–005 Kha 9975, was traveling from Kathmandu to Okhaldhunga at the time of the accident. Based on information provided by the driver, the bus had departed Kathmandu carrying 20 passengers.

“According to the driver, there were 20 passengers on board when the bus left Kathmandu, and no additional passengers were picked up along the route,” DSP Bhatt said, quoting the driver. Police have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the accident.
