Kathmandu — Nepal’s newly elected members of the House of Representatives took the oath of office at Singha Durbar on Thursday, where a blend of traditional attire and personal symbolism marked the ceremony.
Most male lawmakers appeared in traditional daura suruwal, while some wore outfits reflecting their ethnic identity. Among them, Rahbar Ansari, a lawmaker from the Rastriya Swatantra Party, stood out for attending the ceremony in a school uniform.
Ansari arrived wearing a light blue shirt and dark trousers, carrying a backpack and a copy of Nepal’s Constitution. He was accompanied by his father to the federal parliament building.
Speaking to reporters, Ansari said his attire carried personal significance. He recalled that his father had taken him to school 35 years ago, and on this occasion, his 74-year-old father brought him to parliament.
Ansari said the gesture was intended to acknowledge the role of parents and teachers in shaping an individual’s life. He added that education is the foundation of success and prosperity, describing the backpack as a symbol of knowledge.
Ansari was elected to the House of Representatives from Bara Constituency No. 2.
