Russian President Vladimir Putin and Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian discussed the latest Middle East developments in a phone call, their second conversation within a week, the Kremlin said.

Moscow — Russian President Vladimir Putin and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian held a telephone conversation to discuss the latest developments in the Middle East and rising regional tensions. The call was the second conversation between the two leaders within a week.

According to the Russian state news agency TASS, citing the Kremlin, the leaders spoke again on Tuesday and exchanged views on the evolving situation in the Middle East. The discussion focused on the situation that developed after the military attacks on Iran and the broader implications for regional stability.

The Kremlin said Putin reiterated Russia’s position that the conflict should be de-escalated as soon as possible and that efforts should focus on resolving the crisis through diplomatic channels. He emphasized the importance of dialogue and political solutions to prevent further escalation in the region.

Pezeshkian Thanks Russia for Support

Iranian President Pezeshkian also expressed appreciation for Russia’s support during the recent crisis. According to TASS, he specifically thanked Moscow for its humanitarian assistance and its position during the ongoing tensions.

The two leaders had previously spoken by phone on March 6. During that earlier conversation, Putin condemned the killings of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, senior Iranian officials, and civilians in attacks attributed to the United States and Israel. He also expressed condolences for those who lost their lives in the incidents.

Ongoing Diplomatic Contacts on Regional Crisis

Amid heightened diplomatic activity, Putin has also held discussions with several Gulf leaders regarding the situation. In addition, on March 9, U.S. President Donald Trump held a telephone conversation with the Russian leader.

Observers say the series of high-level diplomatic contacts reflects growing international efforts to address rising tensions in the Middle East and prevent the conflict from expanding further.
