Kathmandu — President Ramchandra Paudel has said that strong political commitment is the first condition for effective corruption control in Nepal. Addressing a ceremony on Wednesday marking the 35th anniversary of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA), he stated that positive changes in the work culture of political office-bearers would also provide direction to the administrative sector.

He said strengthening democracy remains a shared national aspiration and noted that the expectations recently expressed by the younger generation must not be overlooked. According to the President, without good governance and transparency, the benefits of democracy cannot reach citizens’ homes.

Corruption Control Essential for Prosperity and Public Trust

President Paudel described corruption control as an indispensable prerequisite for achieving prosperity. He stressed that all forms of corruption must be brought within the scope of investigation, warning that the misuse of public authority for personal interest weakens citizens’ trust in the state.

Calling the abuse of authority a serious challenge to social justice, he said the fight against corruption is not the responsibility of a single institution alone. He emphasized that only through collective commitment and coordinated efforts can the anti-corruption campaign become effective, adding that impartial and effective legal processes are necessary to ensure accountability and restore public confidence.
