Prachanda Says He Chose Rukum East to Send Message on Socialism

Nepal Communist Party coordinator Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ says he chose Rukum East as his electoral constituency to convey a national message on socialism, citing the district’s historic role in Nepal’s republican movement.

The coordinator of the Nepal Communist Party, Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, has said he chose Rukum (East) as his electoral constituency to convey a message of socialism-building, describing the district as a historic site of Nepal’s republican declaration.

Addressing a gathering and training program of party cadres from Rukum (East) in Kathmandu on Friday, Dahal said the district has been a decisive center of Nepal’s republican movement, which is why he decided to contest elections from the area.

Referring to the historic Chunwang meeting held in eastern Rukum, Dahal recalled that the meeting had concluded with the decision to establish a federal democratic republic in Nepal. He said the gathering also proclaimed the need to ensure rights with identity for women, indigenous nationalities, Madhesis, Tharus, and other marginalized communities.

According to Dahal, the Chunwang meeting is recognized not only within Nepal but also internationally for its political significance. He also recalled the Lavang meeting held in Rukum (East), noting that it had witnessed a historic ideological debate within the party.

“The country has been going through an extraordinarily complex situation, particularly after the destruction caused during the Gen Z movement on Bhadra 23 and 24,” Dahal said. “The nation is facing serious challenges.

In this context, when considering where it would be most appropriate to unite the country, elevate the movement to a new level, and deliver a new nationwide message on building socialism, both the party and I concluded that Rukum (East) could be that place.”
