Kathmandu — Police have rejected claims circulating on social media that voting was disrupted in Okhaldhunga and that a person was injured in a shooting during Nepal’s ongoing election, calling the reports false and misleading.
Authorities said the information being shared online does not reflect the actual situation in the district. According to police, the voting process in Okhaldhunga has been taking place peacefully without any incident involving gunfire.
Viral Video Spread Misleading Information
The clarification came after a video circulated widely on Facebook on Thursday claiming that clashes had erupted at a polling station and that security forces had opened fire. The video quickly spread across social media platforms, creating confusion among the public.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Madan KC of Okhaldhunga said the claims are completely baseless. In a statement shared through social media, he said the reports about a shooting and disruption of voting were false. “Voting in Okhaldhunga is taking place peacefully,” KC said.
Police Warn Legal Action Against Rumor Spreaders
Police also said they are working to identify individuals involved in spreading the misleading information. Authorities warned that those responsible for circulating false rumors that create public panic will face legal action under the law.
Nepal is currently holding nationwide voting to elect members of the House of Representatives, with polling taking place across the country under security arrangements aimed at ensuring a peaceful and orderly election process.
