Kathmandu — Preparations have intensified at Bhrikutimandap from Friday ahead of the Nepali Congress’s second special general convention scheduled for Sunday and Monday. General convention representatives from various districts have begun arriving in Kathmandu to take part in the special convention.
Throughout Friday, there was visible activity at Bhrikutimandap, with leaders supporting the special general convention present at the venue. At the same time, district working committees across the country have continued issuing statements in support of convening the special convention.
As preparations for the second special general convention gather pace, different party committees have become increasingly active in their respective roles. On Saturday, the coordination committee of the Nepali Congress’s sister organizations and well-wishers is set to organize a rally.
According to committee coordinator and Congress leader Pratima Gautam, the rally will be held on Saturday afternoon. She said the rally will begin at 1:00 pm from the special general convention venue at Bhrikutimandap, proceed through Bagbazar, and conclude back at Bhrikutimandap.
The committee has called on representatives, leaders, and party cadres to participate in the rally. The special general convention was called by General Secretaries Gagan Thapa and Bishwa Prakash Sharma after the party’s regular general convention could not be held on the declared date.
In support of the special general convention, more than 54 percent of representatives from the Nepali Congress’s 14th general convention had submitted their signatures. The party statute provides that a special general convention can be convened with the support of 40 percent of the representatives.
