Kathmandu — The Nepali Congress has called a Central Committee meeting to review its performance in the recent House of Representatives election and discuss its future course. According to Acting Chief Secretary Krishna Prasad Dulal, the meeting will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, March 20 (Chaitra 6), at the party’s central office in Sanepa.
Provincial presidents have also been invited to attend the meeting.
Election Results and Review on Agenda
The meeting will review the election results, the party’s performance, and future strategy. In the House of Representatives election held on March 5 (Falgun 21), the Nepali Congress secured 38 seats, including 18 under the first-past-the-post system and 20 through proportional representation.
The defeat of several candidates, including members of the party’s top leadership, has increased the need for internal review.
Leadership Under Pressure After Election Results
Following the election results, pressure has increased within the party for President Gagan Thapa to take responsibility. Some leaders have called for his resignation. During a meeting with Vice President Bishwaprakash Sharma, Thapa said he was ready to resign, but Sharma advised him not to step down.
There have also been demands within the party to set a date for the general convention, further intensifying internal discussions on leadership and restructuring.
