Nepali Congress Proposes Late Baisakh Date for 15th General Convention

Nepali Congress leader Bimalendra Nidhi has said the party is considering holding its 15th General Convention by the end of Baisakh after a revised schedule was presented by the acting president.

Senior leader of the Nepali Congress, Bimalendra Nidhi, has said a revised schedule has been proposed to hold the party’s 15th General Convention by the end of Baisakh.

Speaking to journalists after a meeting of the party’s Central Executive Committee in Sanepa on Friday, Nidhi said Acting President Purna Bahadur Khadka presented an updated timetable to organize the General Convention from Baisakh 28 to 31.

“The Acting President has presented a revised schedule to hold the 15th General Convention from Baisakh 28 to 31. Discussions on this proposal are ongoing,” Nidhi said.

The Nepali Congress had earlier scheduled the 15th General Convention for Poush 26 to 28. However, the plan could not be implemented, leading party leaders to reopen discussions on a new timeline.

Meanwhile, a group claiming the support of 54 percent of General Convention representatives has announced plans to convene a special convention starting from Poush 27. The group has booked a hall at Bhrikutimandap for the event.

Responding to this development, Nidhi said the rationale for a special convention no longer remains, as a revised schedule for the regular General Convention has already been presented. He said the party should proceed through its regular General Convention process.
