Nepali Communist Party Starts National Assembly Ticket Distribution

The Nepali Communist Party has begun distributing tickets for the National Assembly election after failing to reach an alliance with major political parties.

Despite the collapse of a potential alliance with the Nepali Congress and the CPN-UML, Nepali Communist Party Coordinator Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has begun distributing tickets for the upcoming National Assembly election.

In consultation with senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal, Prachanda has selected Prem Sapkota Rajendra of Sindhupalchok as the party’s male candidate from Bagmati Province. According to party sources, Prachanda handed Sapkota the official recommendation letter on Monday morning and directed him to travel to Hetauda to register his candidacy.

Candidate registration is taking place on Monday for 18 National Assembly seats that will become vacant from February 20. The Election Commission’s schedule shows that voting for the National Assembly election will be held on January 11.

With efforts to reach a broader electoral understanding with major parties failing, the Nepali Communist Party has proceeded with its own candidate selection process. Political observers say the move signals the party’s decision to contest the National Assembly election independently, based on internal consensus rather than electoral alliances.
