Nepal Home Minister Meets Muslim Community Leaders, Assures Action to Protect Religious Harmony

Nepal Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal met Muslim community representatives at the Home Ministry, assuring legal action against religious disruption and emphasizing tolerance and peace ahead of upcoming elections.

Kathmandu, Nepal — Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal on Sunday held a joint meeting at the Ministry of Home Affairs with representatives of three separate Muslim community groups, along with a member of the National Assembly.

During the meeting, officials from the National Muslim Coordination Committee and representatives of the Federal Democratic Alliance submitted two separate memorandums to the home minister, raising concerns related to the Muslim community.

Receiving the memorandums, Minister Aryal said the government and the home administration are firmly committed to taking immediate legal action against anyone who attempts to disrupt religious harmony or interfere with any religion or sect.

He said the issues raised by members of the Muslim community have received serious attention from the government.

Minister Aryal emphasized that maintaining religious faith, tolerance, and harmony at the provincial and district levels is a key priority at present. He urged all religious communities and sects to exercise restraint and responsibility in their activities.

“If anyone takes the law into their own hands or carries out unlawful acts under the pretext of affiliation with any power or group, the government will bring them within the scope of legal action,” Aryal said.

Representatives from the National Muslim Coordination Committee, including Mohammad Yunus Ahmar (Hashmi) and Maulana Mazrul Hasan, informed the minister about the rise of certain antisocial activities that could provoke religious intolerance within the community.

They also warned that such activities could threaten peace and security ahead of the upcoming elections scheduled for Falgun 21.
