Nepal Foreign Policy Focused on Balance: Shishir Khanal

Foreign Minister Khanal highlights non-alignment and balanced global relations as Nepal strengthens diplomatic strategy

Kathmandu — Nepal foreign policy remains focused on non-alignment and mutual respect, Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal said, stressing the government’s push to strengthen balanced international relations.

Speaking at a public event in Kathmandu, the minister said Nepal is actively working to deepen ties with all nations while safeguarding sovereignty, territorial integrity, and independent decision-making. He emphasized that maintaining friendly and peaceful relations with the global community remains a central pillar of the country’s diplomatic approach.

According to Khanal, Nepal foreign policy is guided by principles that avoid alignment with competing global powers, instead promoting cooperation based on equality and respect. He noted that such a balanced stance allows Nepal to protect its national interests while contributing to regional stability and international understanding.

The event, jointly organized by local community service and police support groups, also highlighted domestic priorities. Chief of the Kathmandu Valley Police Office, Ishwar Karki, said law enforcement agencies are working closely with communities to build a safer, crime-free society. He underlined the importance of public participation in strengthening security and trust between citizens and authorities.

Meanwhile, Tokha Municipality Mayor Prakash Adhikari drew attention to ongoing infrastructure challenges, particularly the shortage of drinking water in the area. He said the municipality is seeking stronger support from the federal government to address the issue and improve basic services for residents.

Political leaders also used the platform to call for greater responsiveness from the government. Kalpana Sharma urged authorities to remain focused on fulfilling public expectations, noting that governance must align with the needs and aspirations of citizens.

Nepal foreign policy, Khanal reiterated, will continue to prioritize independence, balance, and cooperation as the country navigates evolving global dynamics. The government believes this approach will help strengthen both international partnerships and domestic stability.

Looking ahead, officials say sustained coordination between diplomacy and local governance will be key to ensuring national development and maintaining Nepal’s balanced global engagement.
