While voting is expected to proceed smoothly in the hilly and Tarai regions, the process is likely to be more challenging in the high hill and Himalayan areas. Snowfall continues in the high hill and Himalayan regions until Chaitra, which could make it difficult for voters to reach polling stations.
Prime Minister Sushila Karki has said that the government will make every possible effort to ensure voting takes place in all regions. Speaking to journalists in Nawalpur on Tuesday, Prime Minister Karki said that transportation facilities could be used to bring voters to polling centers in difficult terrains.
“In areas where access is limited, transportation can be arranged. People can be transported using vehicles,” she said. She added that if voting becomes completely impossible in certain locations, alternative arrangements could be made in a later phase.
“If the situation makes voting impossible, it will be reconsidered accordingly. If voting is halted in some places, the government will conduct a second round there. But the election will take place under any circumstances,” Prime Minister Karki said.
She also stated that no political party has held discussions with the government about postponing the election. “The election will not be postponed. Why should it be? A total of 31 to 32 billion rupees is being spent. This is a significant amount. This is an election being held under extraordinary circumstances, and it will proceed accordingly,” the Prime Minister said.
