Nepal’s Constitution Amendment Task Force holds its first meeting today, marking the start of formal discussions to prepare a draft framework for possible constitutional revisions.
The meeting is scheduled for 3:00 PM at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers. The Nepal Constitution Amendment Task Force was formed on Chaitra 16 under the coordination of Asim Shah, chief political advisor to Prime Minister Balen Shah, with a mandate to prepare a discussion paper on constitutional amendments.
The committee includes representatives from multiple political parties. Confirmed members include Mohan Acharya from the ruling Rastriya Swatantra Party, Bhishmanath Adhikari from CPN-UML, and former law minister Dev Prasad Gurung representing the CPN. Other members include Rastriya Prajatantra Party parliamentary leader Gyanendra Shahi and Manoj Bhatt, general secretary of Rastriya Janamorcha.
Representation and Legal Members
Representation from Nepali Congress, Janata Samajbadi Party Nepal, Loktantrik Samajbadi Party Nepal, and the Shram Sanskriti Party is still under internal discussion, with names expected to be finalized soon.
The task force also includes senior legal officials. Pushkar Sapkota, Secretary of Law at the Prime Minister’s Office, and Indira Dahal, Secretary of the Nepal Law Commission, are serving as members. Liladhar Subedi, head of the Law and Decision Implementation Division at the Prime Minister’s Office, has been appointed as the member secretary.
The Nepal Constitution Amendment Task Force is expected to prepare a structured discussion document outlining key areas for potential constitutional reform in the coming period.
