Nepal Communist Party (NCP) coordinator Pushpa Kamal Dahal, popularly known as Prachanda, has said his party will not enter into an electoral alliance with any political force in the upcoming House of Representatives elections.
Speaking to reporters on Tuesday at the party’s central office in Parisdanda, Prachanda said there has been no discussion on forming alliances and stressed that none will take place. He said the NCP is prepared to contest the elections independently.
Prachanda also addressed reports surrounding his recent meeting with KP Sharma Oli, chairperson of the Communist Party of Nepal (UML), prior to his visit to India. He clarified that the meeting did not involve any talks related to electoral cooperation.
“There has been no discussion whatsoever about an alliance. Meetings occur for various reasons, but there is no alliance, and there will not be one,” he said. Reiterating the party’s position, Prachanda said the NCP has decided to go to the polls on its own strength.
Responding to questions about possible political coordination involving Ravi Lamichhane and Balen Shah, Prachanda said his party is not concerned about such developments.
“We are not at all afraid of a Ravi–Balen alliance. Ravi Lamichhane served twice as home minister during my tenure. If I need to speak with him, I do not have to wait for a Sunday. We are not intimidated,” he said.
Prachanda also explained that his visit to India was mainly to attend a unity assembly organized by the party’s overseas committee. He said meetings with Indian political leaders during the visit were incidental and informal.
“After the party’s unification, unity assemblies have been held across all provinces, and a similar program was organized in Delhi. My primary purpose was to attend that event,” he said. “Once there, meetings naturally take place. Our ambassador was present, and several leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) came to welcome and honor us. However, there were no formal political discussions.”
