NC Youth Leaders Press Deuba to Prioritize Young Candidates in Key Upcoming Elections

Youth leaders from the Nepali Congress met party president Sher Bahadur Deuba, calling for clean-image and transparent young candidates to be prioritized in the upcoming national elections.

Youth leaders within the Nepali Congress have intensified internal engagement ahead of the upcoming elections. A group of young party members met party president Sher Bahadur Deuba on Friday, urging him to prioritize capable, transparent, and clean-image youth candidates in the House of Representatives and National Assembly polls.

The delegation, which visited Deuba’s residence in Maharajgunj, included former Nepal Student Union general secretary Saroj Thapa. After the meeting, Thapa said the party had reached a turning point and should now move ahead with generational transformation.

According to him, “We urged President Deuba to field youth candidates who maintain financial transparency, social credibility, and ideological clarity. It is time for the party to implement its commitment to leadership transition.”

Deuba Stresses Unity and Confirms Convention Schedule

During the discussion, Deuba informed the youth team that, according to the party’s schedule, the 15th General Convention will take place from December 10–12 (Poush 26–28). He dismissed calls for a special convention as irrelevant while the party is already preparing for its regular gathering.

Deuba emphasized the need to hold internal conventions on time—from the ward level up to the central committee—and urged youth leaders to strengthen their engagement ahead of the event. He reiterated that youth leadership represents the party’s future and highlighted the need for unity and preparedness for the upcoming elections.

Youth Delegation Calls for Structural Reform and Leadership Transition

The youth representatives stressed the need for organizational restructuring to modernize the Nepali Congress. They argued that long-standing operational patterns had limited grassroots opportunities and that institutional reform was necessary.

The delegation included Baglung district president Jit Sherchan, former NSU treasurer Pushpa Shahi, Thalkumar Lingkha, Manish Thapa, Geeta Gurung, Tarun Dal central member Tirtha Gautam, Indu Sharma, and farmer leader Anjan Lama, among others.

They expressed confidence that if the party fields energetic, innovative, and people-focused young candidates in the upcoming elections, it will help restore trust and enthusiasm among voters and within the organization.
