Kathmandu — CPN-UML Deputy General Secretary Lekhraj Bhatta has said the party is facing its current election outcome largely because it failed to effectively communicate its achievements and key political developments to the public.
Speaking to journalists on Saturday after arriving in Gundu, Bhaktapur, to attend the party’s secretariat meeting, Bhatta said the party had not been able to properly convey the events that took place on Bhadra 23 and 24 to the public.
Failure to Deliver Party Message to the Public
According to Bhatta, one of the party’s major weaknesses was its inability to clearly present its work and political positions to the public.
“We were not able to deliver the work we did to the grassroots level among the public. We also failed to properly communicate the events of Bhadra 23 and 24 to the people. The result we are facing today is a consequence of that failure, and we must accept it and move forward,” he said.
Bhatta said the party would reach an official conclusion only after conducting a comprehensive internal review. However, he said he would present the shortcomings he has observed during discussions within the party committee.
“False Narrative” Influenced Public Opinion
He added that the reality of how those events unfolded, as well as the role played by the party and its leadership, did not reach the public clearly.
Bhatta also claimed that the situation allowed behind-the-scenes political maneuvering to gain ground, which he said resulted in a coordinated attack against the CPN-UML and its leadership.
“A misleading narrative was created among the public. Because of that confusion and false narrative, public opinion moved against the UML,” he said.
