Kathmandu — National Assembly Vice Chairperson Leela Bhandari took the oath of office and secrecy on Tuesday, formally assuming her role in Nepal’s upper house of Parliament.
The oath ceremony was held at the President’s Office, Shital Niwas, in the presence of President Ram Chandra Paudel. Bhandari was sworn in before National Assembly Chairperson Narayan Prasad Dahal following her recent election to the position.
The event was attended by several high-ranking officials, highlighting its national significance. Among those present were Vice President Ram Sahaya Prasad Yadav, Prime Minister Balen Shah, Speaker of the House of Representatives Dol Prasad Aryal, and Acting Chief Justice Sapana Pradhan Malla. Ministers, lawmakers, heads of constitutional bodies, and senior government officials were also in attendance.
As Vice Chairperson, Bhandari will play an important role in supporting the functioning of the National Assembly. Her responsibilities include presiding over meetings in the absence of the Chairperson and helping ensure smooth legislative procedures.
Her appointment comes as Parliament continues its efforts to strengthen institutional roles and improve legislative efficiency. Leadership positions such as the Vice Chairperson are seen as key to maintaining order and facilitating effective policy discussions.
With the oath completed, National Assembly Vice Chairperson Leela Bhandari is set to begin her duties as the National Assembly moves forward with its legislative agenda in the coming weeks.
