Both Parties Above National Party Threshold
Under Nepal’s electoral system, a political party must secure at least three percent of the proportional representation vote to maintain its status as a national party.
Both parties have currently crossed the three percent threshold, although the final status will depend on whether they maintain this level once vote counting is completed.
Vote Requirement for National Party Status
According to the Election Commission, a total of 10,977,711 votes were cast in the Falgun 21 parliamentary election.
Election trends indicate that around 500,000 votes may be invalid. Based on this estimate, a political party will need approximately 312,000 votes to qualify for national party recognition.
Vote Counting Still Ongoing
Vote counting is continuing in several constituencies, including Sankhuwasabha, Ilam-1, Achham-2, Bajura, both constituencies of Gorkha, and Dhanusha-1 and Dhanusha-2.
The final results from these constituencies could affect the overall proportional vote totals.
Labour Culture Party Wins Three Direct Seats
In the first-past-the-post system, the Labour Culture Party has secured three seats so far.
- Dhruvaraj Rai was elected from Bhojpur.
- Harkaraj Rai won from Sunsari-1.
- Aren Rai was elected from Khotang.
Meanwhile, in Ilam-1, Labour Culture Party candidate Vinod Nembang is in a close contest with Nepali Congress candidate Nishkal Rai.
RPP Wins One Direct Seat
The Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) has secured one seat under the direct election system.

As vote counting continues, the final proportional vote totals will determine whether both parties maintain the three percent threshold required for national party status.
