Party units under Jhapa Constituency No. 1, the electoral area of Bishwa Prakash Sharma, General Secretary of the Nepali Congress, have called the party’s special general convention a decisive moment and urged delegates to be present in Kathmandu.
The Jhapa-1 Regional Committee and the Mechinagar Municipal Committee issued separate statements saying the special general convention is essential for party transformation, strengthening internal democracy, and improving organizational effectiveness.
According to the statements, 2,488 party members—representing 54.57 percent of general convention delegates—have signed in support of holding the special convention. The committees said the required number has been met under the party statute, making the demand binding.
The statements confirmed that the special general convention will be held in Kathmandu on Poush 27 and 28, adding that its success is a shared responsibility of all party leaders and cadres.
Delegates were urged to take part in the “historic second special general convention,” support change, institutionalize internal democracy, and contribute to building a “new Congress” for the future.
The statement from the Mechinagar Municipal Committee was signed by Vice-Chairpersons Dhanakaji Khatri and Yogendra Thapa, along with Municipal Secretaries Mukesh Tumrok and Manoj Ghimire.
Regional Committee Highlights Importance of Active Participation
The Nepali Congress Jhapa Constituency No. 1 Regional Committee also described the special general convention as one of the most important moments in the party’s history and called for active participation by delegates.
According to the regional committee, the convention will play a decisive role in addressing ideological clarity, organizational unity, internal democracy, and contemporary political challenges.
The committee said the active and responsible presence of all Mahasamiti members and general convention delegates elected from Jhapa Constituency No. 1 is essential.
In a statement signed by Regional Committee Chairperson Indra Bahadur Budhathoki, the committee said the special general convention offers an opportunity to further strengthen the party, enhance its credibility, and make it more trustworthy for the general public.
