Kathmandu — The Ministry of Home Affairs has agreed to allow Kathmandu Metropolitan City to use the building located at Bhotahity that currently houses the Nepal Police Cyber Bureau.
The approval covers land plots numbered 353, 354, and 355, with a total area of four aana, two paisa, and one daam, along with the building constructed on the land, which will now be used by Kathmandu Metropolitan City.
In exchange, the Metropolitan City has agreed to register in the name of the Government of Nepal a plot of land measuring seven ropani, two paisa, and three daam, where the Valley Traffic Police Office is currently located at Ramshah Path.
Decision Process and Legal Framework
The decision was reached following discussions between the two sides held at the Ministry of Home Affairs on Sunday, according to Bartaraj Paudel, an undersecretary at the Ministry.
Paudel said that once the land is registered in the name of the Government of Nepal, at least eight aana of the total area will be allocated for the Samarang Company office, while the remaining land will be used by the Nepal Police Valley Traffic Police Office after completing the required administrative procedures.
Previously, Kathmandu Metropolitan City had been requesting the use of the Bhotahity building, where the Cyber Bureau office is located, to operate a ward office.
While the law assigns local governments the responsibility of protecting public and government land, it allows such land to be used through coordination and formal agreements with the authority under whose jurisdiction it falls. In line with this legal provision, approval was obtained from the Ministry of Home Affairs.
