Harka Sampang Says He Was Not Trusted to Lead Rebellion Toward Executive Presidency

Dharan Mayor Harka Sampang expressed frustration at being denied the Home Ministry and said the Gen-Z movement should push for a directly elected executive presidency while warning against foreign interference.

Dharan — Dharan Sub-Metropolitan City Mayor Harka Sampang has expressed frustration, saying he was not trusted when he sought to channel the Gen-Z movement into building a new political structure.

Speaking live on Facebook on Sunday, Sampang argued that the ongoing movement was not only about replacing one government with another. He said the real mandate of the rebellion is to move toward a directly elected executive presidency.

“If dissolving the old parliament only leads to the election of a new one, then the true spirit of this movement will be wasted,” he said. Sampang also voiced disappointment at not being considered for the position of Home Minister, despite active lobbying. “I cannot tolerate corruption. I believe in rules and clean governance. Maybe that is why I was not seen as suitable,” he explained.

Warnings, New Party Plans and Concerns Over Instability

He warned that foreign powers may attempt to exploit Nepal’s political unrest. “Nepal must not become a battlefield for outsiders. We must safeguard our sovereignty,” he declared. Sampang indicated he may form a new political party and urged citizens to give mandates to new forces. “I will also form a party. I urge all Nepalis to participate,” he said.

He cautioned that the elections expected in March could again empower old parties. “They will run the government through compromises, and instability will continue. The only permanent solution now is a directly elected executive president,” he said.
