Gopal Man Shrestha Urges Gagan Thapa Not to Resign, Calls for Nepali Congress Unity

Senior Nepali Congress leader Gopal Man Shrestha has urged party president Gagan Thapa not to resign following the election results, calling for party unity and organizational strengthening.

Kathmandu — Senior Nepali Congress leader Gopal Man Shrestha has urged party president Gagan Kumar Thapa not to resign and instead focus on strengthening the party organization based on the mandate delivered by the recent election.

Shrestha expressed his views through a message posted on Facebook on Wednesday amid discussions that Thapa might step down following the election results. He said that although the outcome of the election did not meet expectations, the party should move forward in unity and treat the results as an opportunity for reflection and improvement.

According to Shrestha, Thapa’s leadership, vision, and ability to inspire young people remain important strengths for the Nepali Congress. He said raising the issue of resignation during a difficult time would not be appropriate and stressed that party members should instead unite to strengthen the organization.

Emphasis on Democracy and Political Stability

He said protecting democracy, strengthening the rule of law, and ensuring political stability should remain the country’s main priorities. In his view, reinforcing Nepal’s democratic system is more important than focusing only on the election results.

Shrestha also said the election outcome should be seen as a moment for the Nepali Congress to reassess itself. He noted that the results indicate the party has not yet fully transformed itself in line with the expectations for change expressed by the public.

Call to Strengthen Party Organization

In this context, he emphasized the need to strengthen party structures from the ward level to the central leadership. Shrestha said rebuilding and reinforcing the party’s organizational framework will be essential to regain public trust.

Concluding his message, Shrestha called on all Nepali Congress members to maintain unity and support the leadership. He said the time has come for the party to move forward together toward rebuilding and transforming the Nepali Congress.
