The Election Commission has sought a written clarification from Hemraj Thapa, a direct candidate for the House of Representatives from Bajura representing the Rastriya Swatantra Party. According to the Commission, the clarification was sought over a public statement made by Thapa that later went viral on social media.
The move followed a complaint alleging that Thapa used abusive language while targeting Bagmati Province Chief Minister Indra Baniya. Chief Minister Baniya had earlier stated that he would seek legal remedies, claiming that Thapa made accusations and used offensive language against him.
Thapa had made the remarks while criticizing the Chief Minister over alleged delays in road construction. Responding to the allegations, Chief Minister Baniya said that the contract period for the road project runs until 2084 BS and that road construction becomes difficult during periods of snowfall.
He also claimed that he is no longer associated with the company involved in the project. According to sources at the Election Commission, Thapa has been asked to submit his clarification within three days.
