CPN-UML Recommends 16 Proportional Representation Candidates to Nepal Election Commission

CPN-UML has finalized 16 candidates under Nepal’s proportional representation system and will submit the names to the Election Commission following a party meeting chaired by Ram Bahadur Thapa.

Kathmandu — The Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist–Leninist) has decided to recommend 16 candidates to the Election Commission of Nepal under the proportional representation system for the House of Representatives.

The decision was taken during a party meeting chaired by Vice Chairman Ram Bahadur Thapa, as party Chairman KP Sharma Oli is in mourning following the death of his father.

Deputy General Secretary Lekharaj Bhatta said the meeting finalized the names of 16 proportional representation candidates to be submitted to the Election Commission based on Nepal’s inclusive representation clusters.

Candidates Recommended Under Inclusive Clusters

Under the Indigenous Nationalities cluster, the party recommended Bhumika Subba (female), Gangadevi Shrestha (female), Ram Bahadur Thapa Magar (male), and Kulbhakta Shakya (male).

From the Khas Arya cluster, the nominees include Padma Aryal (female), Tukabhadra Hamal (female), Guru Prasad Baral (male), Pushparaj Kandel (male), and Yashoda Kumari Baral, who also represents the backward region, disability, and women clusters.

Kriparam Rana has been recommended from the Tharu community. From the Dalit cluster, the party nominated Bishnumaya BK and Nita Ghatani.

Under the Madhesi community cluster, Ringla Yadav, Yashoda Kumari, and Chandreshwar Mandal (male) have been recommended. Sajida Siddiki has been nominated from the Muslim community.

Condolence Resolution for KP Oli’s Father

The meeting also passed a condolence resolution expressing sorrow over the death of the 97-year-old father of party Chairperson KP Sharma Oli, who died on the morning of the falgun 29. The party expressed deep sympathy to Oli and the bereaved family.

The meeting also paid tribute to central committee member and Kaski coordinator Krishna Thapa, who died of a heart attack during the party’s review meeting on Falgun 28.

The party also expressed condolences over the death of former central committee member and former chair of the Janasanskritik Federation, Khagendra Rai, who died of a heart attack while engaged in party promotional activities.

The meeting honored their contributions and expressed sympathy to their families.
