The Central Committee meeting of the Communist Party of Nepal (UML) has begun in Lalitpur. The meeting is being held at the Majestic Grand Palace in Ekantakuna. Party leaders are discussing several key issues, including recent political developments, the party’s role in the current political situation, and preparations for the upcoming general elections.
The session opened with the national anthem, followed by a moment of silence to honor the martyrs.
Agenda Focuses on Elections and Party Regulations
According to the agenda, party chairperson KP Sharma Oli will deliver a detailed address reviewing political developments since the first Central Committee meeting. His remarks will also cover the role played by the party during this period and preparations for the next general elections.
One of the major agenda items is the presentation and approval of proposed amendments to the party’s regulations. These amendments are based on changes made to the party statute during the Second Statute Convention held from Bhadra 20 to 22, 2082, and the Eleventh National General Convention held from Mangsir 27 to Poush 3.
The meeting will also be briefed on a summary of income and expenditure related to the Eleventh National General Convention.
Financial Review, Endorsements, and Certification Program
According to the party, the Eleventh National General Convention was more cost-effective than the Tenth National General Convention held in Chitwan. The party said it saved approximately NPR 30 million, mainly because there were no accommodation and transportation expenses.
The Central Committee is also expected to formally endorse decisions taken at two Central Secretariat meetings held on Poush 12 and Poush 22. Those decisions have already been implemented through Inter-Party Directive No. 1.
In addition, Chairperson Oli will distribute certificates to the office-bearers and members of the Central Committee elected during the Eleventh National General Convention. The meeting is scheduled to conclude with the presentation and approval of various proposals related to current political issues.
