The Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist–Leninist) (CPN-UML) has accused the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) of attempting to disrupt the election environment as the Falgun 21 election approaches.
Speaking at a press conference at the party’s central office on Saturday, Min Bahadur Shahi, coordinator of the UML’s election publicity committee, alleged that the RSP has been involved in burning UML flags bearing the party’s election symbol, the “Sun,” destroying campaign materials, and spreading hate speech against UML leadership.
He said such incidents have increased as the election nears, creating what he described as an atmosphere of fear and tension. Shahi also accused the government of failing to ensure adequate security during the pre-election period, stating that guaranteeing a safe and fear-free environment for voters is the government’s responsibility.
Concerns Over Election Security
The UML stated that the Falgun 21 vote is significant for the country and urged authorities to prevent actions that could lead to political confrontation. The party emphasized that voters must be able to reach polling centers and cast their ballots without fear or intimidation.
Allegations of Election Code Violations
The UML further alleged violations of the election code of conduct, claiming that T-shirts bearing the election symbol of a political party were distributed during the Holi festival. The party described the act as a breach of electoral regulations.
It also alleged that the Election Commission has not responded adequately to such incidents and called on authorities to ensure a free, fair, and peaceful election process.
