CPN-UML Expected to Win at Least 10 Seats in Kathmandu Valley: Mahesh Basnet

CPN-UML Secretary Mahesh Basnet has said the party is likely to win at least 10 seats in the Kathmandu Valley in the upcoming general election, pointing to changing voter attitudes and favorable political conditions.

Kathmandu — Mahesh Basnet, secretary of the CPN-UML, has said the party is expected to win at least 10 seats in the Kathmandu Valley in the upcoming general election.

Speaking at an interaction program organized by Press Chautari Nepal, Basnet said the party has made preparations to compete in all constituencies across the Valley and is confident of securing a minimum of 10 seats.

He said UML’s performance in the previous election was affected by the five-party alliance and strong public support for independent candidates, which reduced the party’s representation in the Valley to two seats. According to Basnet, voters have since reassessed their choices and now view UML as a more appropriate option.

Basnet said residents of the Kathmandu Valley are aware, educated, and politically mature. Responding to allegations of vote-buying made by some candidates, he rejected the claims and said the Valley has the country’s largest concentration of educated and intellectual citizens.

He added that voting trends in the Valley are changeable and can be influenced by even minor developments. However, he said the current political environment in the Valley is favorable to UML ahead of the election.
