Kathmandu — Nepali Congress leader Chandra Bhandari has called for the party’s special general convention to be limited to policy deliberations, urging that it not be used as a platform for internal power struggles.
Speaking at a press conference held in Battisputali on Saturday, Bhandari said the special general convention should be conducted as a policy-focused gathering, recommending that it conclude by passing a resolution of commitment.
“Colleagues from across the country have gathered in the name of the special general convention. We urge that it be treated as a policy convention or that we pass a resolution of commitment and move forward,” Bhandari said. “We should return after motivating and energizing those who will participate in the regular general convention scheduled four months from now.”
He said the special general convention should serve to strengthen unity within the party and help build momentum toward the upcoming regular convention. Bhandari also stressed that the party must not be allowed to split under any circumstances.
He called on both the establishment side—including the party president or acting president—and the organizers to ensure that the special general convention is accepted as a program belonging to the entire party, rather than any particular faction.
