Central Security Committee Strengthens District-Level Election Code Monitoring

The Central Security Committee has announced measures to strengthen district-level monitoring of the election code of conduct, focusing on communication access at polling stations, misinformation control, and election security ahead of the Falgun 21 House election.

The Central Security Committee has decided to make the monitoring of the election code of conduct more effective at the district level. A meeting of the committee, chaired by Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal, decided to identify polling stations that lack communication facilities and arrange alternative communication systems. The meeting also decided to monitor individuals who spread false and misleading information or make hate-related statements in violation of the election code of conduct.

The meeting focused on ensuring that the House of Representatives election scheduled for Falgun 21 is conducted in a free, fair, transparent, and credible manner, according to Home Ministry spokesperson Anand Kafle.

He said authorities will monitor activities involving false and misleading information and hate speech that violate the election code of conduct. Measures will also be taken to ensure public access to accurate and reliable election-related information. Nepal Police’s special mechanism will be strengthened and made more accountable to prevent the misuse of social media.

The Home Ministry said decisions were also made to control anti-election activities by bringing them within the legal framework and to regulate the open purchase, sale, and misuse of petroleum products.

Spokesperson Kafle added that the meeting also discussed the deployment of security personnel during the election and arrangements for the security of candidates.
