Dailekh, Nepal — Central Committee member Bishnu Rijal has secured the highest number of votes in an internal election held by the CPN-UML to select its candidate for the House of Representatives from Dailekh constituency number 2.
The vote took place on Saturday after party leaders failed to reach an agreement among four male aspirants seeking the party’s nomination in the constituency. According to the results, Rijal received 67 votes, placing him first in the internal ballot.
He was followed closely by fellow Central Committee member Laxmi Pokharel, who secured 66 votes. Party leader Raj Bahadur Shahi finished third with 61 votes, while former Speaker of the Karnali Provincial Assembly Raj Bahadur Budha came fourth with 51 votes.
Constituency committee chair Kumar Bikram Shahi said the internal election was conducted after efforts to build consensus among the aspirants proved unsuccessful.
Rijal was elected to the party’s Central Committee from the Karnali region during the UML’s recently concluded 11th General Convention. The outcome of the internal vote will now be forwarded to the party’s central leadership as part of the formal candidate selection process.
