KATHMANDU — Binod Pahadi, a central committee member of the Communist Party of Nepal (CPN) and a former Constituent Assembly member, has joined the Communist Party of Nepal–Unified Marxist Leninist (CPN-UML).
Pahadi was formally welcomed into the CPN-UML by Vice Chair Bishnu Paudel, Central Secretary Chhabilal Bishwakarma and party leader Lila Giri.
A long-time figure in Nepal’s communist movement and Dalit rights advocacy, Binod Pahadi currently serves as President of the National Dalit Journalists’ Association. He is regarded as having made significant contributions in both political and social sectors.
Speaking after joining the CPN-UML, Pahadi said his decision was based on ideological clarity and commitment to national self-respect. He stated that the party’s firm position on national issues influenced his decision to begin a new political journey with the UML.
Pahadi described criticism and political pressure directed at the CPN-UML as a challenge to the democratic system. He emphasized that his move was not driven by personal interest or impulse, but by long-term political conviction.
Alongside Binod Pahadi, Saroj Gautam, a CPN member from Rupandehi district, and Janak Gautam, a ward-level member from Butwal Sub-Metropolitan City, also joined the CPN-UML. The party described their entry as part of its ongoing organizational expansion and political consolidation efforts.
