Prachanda Says Election Prevented Possible National Crisis in Nepal

Prachanda says Nepal could have faced a major national crisis without the election, crediting leadership for successfully completing the process.

Kathmandu — CPN (Maoist Centre) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ said Nepal could have faced a major national crisis if the recent election had not been held.

Speaking during a meeting with Prime Minister Sushila Karki at Baluwatar on Wednesday, Prachanda said his party had supported the election from the beginning, maintaining that there was no alternative to the electoral process.

“This election was essential. Without it, the country could have moved toward a serious crisis,” Prachanda said, praising the Prime Minister’s role in conducting the election. He said the election was completed due to strong leadership, effort, and commitment despite challenging circumstances.

Leaders Recall Uncertainty and Credit Leadership

Former Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal also recalled the situation before the election, stating that there had been uncertainty over leadership at the time. He said confidence increased after Sushila Karki assumed leadership, adding that there was a belief the constitution and political system would be safeguarded.

Nepal said conducting the election within six months despite a difficult situation was a major challenge, and credited the Prime Minister’s integrity and determination for its completion. Senior leaders, including Narayan Kaji Shrestha and Barshaman Pun, were present at the meeting held at the Prime Minister’s official residence in Baluwatar.
