In Sarlahi Constituency-4, Nepali Congress candidate Gagan Thapa received more votes in the direct election than the total votes secured by his party under the proportional representation system. According to election data, the constituency had 121,012 registered voters.
In the final results of the House of Representatives election, Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) candidate Amaresh Kumar Singh won the seat with 35,688 votes, while Nepali Congress candidate Gagan Thapa received 22,831 votes.
Thapa’s Votes Exceed Party’s Proportional Tally
Under the proportional representation system in Sarlahi-4, the Nepali Congress received 18,081 votes. However, Thapa secured 22,831 votes in the direct election, which is 4,750 votes more than the party’s proportional vote total in the constituency.
The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) also secured the highest number of votes in the proportional representation category in Sarlahi-4. The party received 45,516 proportional votes, placing it ahead of other political parties in the constituency.
Comparison With the 2022 Election
In the 2022 House of Representatives election, Amaresh Kumar Singh won the seat as an independent candidate, receiving 20,017 votes. During that election, the Nepali Congress contested as part of the ruling alliance, with Nagendra Kumar as its candidate. He received 18,252 votes.
Under the proportional representation system in that election, the Nepali Congress secured 16,029 votes in the constituency. Compared with the previous election, new voters were added to the electoral roll in this election.
